Big changes often begin from the closest spaces in everyday life: the home, the kitchen, the family, and conversations among community members. This is what we see in the story of change from Gema Alam NTB’s partner village through the WE for JET program.
Through the mentoring process, women who were previously more confined to domestic roles have begun to speak up, join community activities, and take part in decision-making spaces. At the same time, awareness of gender equality has started to grow within families. Household work is no longer seen as women’s responsibility alone, but as a shared responsibility.
This story also shows how inclusion is beginning to take root at the village level. Persons with disabilities are gaining more equal space, community members are learning to write and voice their aspirations, and people are becoming more aware of renewable energy and waste management through simple practices such as waste sorting and the use of biogas.
From the village, we learn that a just energy transition is not only about technology. It is also about courage, solidarity, and a shift in perspective.
